Running Deer





For the past few weeks I've been playing with this series of running deer. The deer are woodcut and the backgrounds are monotypes. I was going to carve some detail into the deer but after I printed them as a silhouette I thought they looked so nice I printed them as they were. Now these are done I might carve into them to see what they'll look like with detail added.

I'm not sure what printmaking catagory these four prints fit into or how they should be numbered. Are they a varied edition? Each one is different, but I've used the same woodblock for each. Any ideas?

It's great to the the thought process behind each piece, and i'm always amazed at how each print can have such a different quality by changing little elements here and there.

    I love how changing one thing can alter a print. Before I started printmaking I thought it'd be quite restrictive, but it's the opposite, there are so many ways to change and adapt things.

  3. I'm a little late to comment as I've just "discovered" you.
    I think these would be numbered as a varied edition, thus: 1/4 VE title signature date.

    I'll bookmark you for further reading.
